The Palacio de los Deportes Jose Maria Martin Carpena stadium has been equipped with four Duran Audio AXYS INTELLIVOX DS1608 digitally steerable, self-powered loudspeaker arrays.
During a recent stadium enlargement project that saw seating capacity increase to more than 11,000, the venue operators also decided to tackle an historic problem of poor intelligibility (0.44 STI).
Consequently, they enlisted Genuix Audio, who – with support from Duran Audio Iberia – opted for a centralised sound system focused around the scoreboard. The four AXYS DS1608s have the ability to offer 98dB (continuous) evenly across a range of over 50 metres, as well as allowing for present programming that allows the sound system to be reconfigured for a wide variety of applications.
While the Palacio has a reverberation time (T60) of around three seconds, the new system has achieved intelligibility of more than 0.56 STI at a level around 94dB.
The new installation has received praise from the local press, with Málaga Hoy noting that “the sound is much more crisp and clean, reducing the feeling of disco that recently wrapped the basketball game” (10/10/2010).
