We are looking for an experienced Senior Audio-Visual Consultant able to provide advice at both strategic and detailed level, working with development, design and construction professionals in the UK and abroad.
The successful candidate will lead audio-visual design on a range of challenging projects and have an important role in developing, managing and integrating audio-visual work across the multi-disciplinary practice of Buro Happold.
You will work within our acoustics and audio-visual group and be based in our Bath office. Close cooperation with other engineering disciplines including ICT and Lighting will be required.
Focused on installed audio-visual systems, the role will also require knowledge and experience of electro-acoustics, ICT and lighting.
The role will include the preparation and co-ordination of audio-visual design advice for the development of projects across a broad range of market sectors.
Your key responsibilities will include:
• Identifying and developing opportunities both in multi-disciplinary projects and in the external market
• Preparation of proposals for audio-visual services including technical and financial input
• Providing consultancy, design and supervision services covering all aspects of audio-visual systems, but biased towards new-build installations
• Providing strategic advice on the wider issues affecting projects with audio-visual components
• Providing a point of contact within Buro Happold on audio-visual issues and developing both internal and external clients with a view to extending the multi-disciplinary skills of the business in general
Job Requirements
Knowledge, Training and Experience Required:
• Strong first or higher degree in relevant subject
• Minimum of seven years’ audio-visual experience, with a track record of project work in major national and international developments
• Ideally a Chartered Engineer
Your experience will include:
• Sound reinforcement, reproduction and recording
• Video display, processing and recording
• Audio-visual control systems
Key areas of experience could include buildings for performance, schools and universities, convention centres, hotels, high quality residences, recording studios and theme parks.

• Authoritative and persuasive speaker comfortable communicating with large and small audiences
• Approach to work both pragmatic and technically rigorous
• Able to balance innovative and traditional solutions based on extensive experience
• Acknowledged technical expert and champion for the role of audio-visual systems in the built environment
• At ease with a diverse, challenging and exciting portfolio of projects and a wide client network
• Individually confident and pro-active, but collaborative within a team
